Our team had a very positive, impactful experience at Affiliated Distributors Electrical Conference that took place October 28th to 30th. From industry updates and forecasts for 2025, to thought leadership conversations with attendees, and setting the stage for business relationships, this event had everyone excited about the state of the electrical industry.
During the event, Industry leaders reflected on the state of the electrical industry through 2024, and they shared predictions heading into 2025. This year seems to have been a volatile year for most across the industry. Industrial automation distributors faced difficulty from OEMs and large customers working through surplus inventory. Lighting and commercial distributors experienced a slow summer but are quickly rebounding with strong finishes to Q3 and starts to Q4. Many members also acknowledged looking for direction post-election – it would be important for determining how the economy may shape over the next few years. Now that we have an idea on policy and direction, leadership can start to get a clearer idea on customer consumption and usage for 2025. As a result, the outlook for next year is optimistic with the hope of more consistency.
In terms of thought leadership, there was a phenomenal speech delivered by AD CEO, Bill Weisberg. The central message was about AD’s core mission of bringing Independent Distributors together to share ideas and best practices. Leveraging a unified network for business relationships with manufacturers and other channel partners is key to success for independents. AD has been able to accomplish stronger results by continuing to grow this network which was exemplified through an industry shaking merger with iMark Electrical. In addition, Bill spoke about how members have significantly increased business through partnerships developed at these events, such as Green Mountain Electric and Hubbell – both organizations were recognized for more than doubling their sales together over this past year! The closing remarks highlighted the importance of maintaining “connection” within today’s business landscape. In an age where technology pushes for more productivity, it can be easy to lose personal connection, but business will always thrive on relationships.
The overarching theme was that technology, resources, and customer needs will always be changing. As a result, industry leaders must continue to come together, sharing experiences and ideas with one another to implement the best ways to progress forward through the obstacles. Our team learned so much at this event and had a great time building relationships. If you missed us, we are always looking to continue the conversations on how the best people push our industry forward!
