Securing and retaining top talent has become a major talking point amongst HR and executive teams.
So many companies invest in retaining their people but in the end, they lose that employee based on a number of key reasons, those reasons include:
- Relationship with their boss
- Not feeling appreciated or challenged in their current role.
- Compensation
- Lack of career road map and advancement opportunity
So, what strategies do you need to deploy to retain your top talent in 2025?
There are a lot of compelling reasons, and some vary per where that candidate actually is in their career journey.
Gen. Z type employees are really looking for workplace flexibility. Does your company offer remote or hybrid type work? Do you have flexible work hours? Dealing with Gen. Z employees is a challenge for lots of employees but the keyword here to retain their talent is flexibility.
Another key to retaining your top talent is constantly having a developmental program where they can feel that they are advancing their knowledge, and that advanced knowledge will lead to new opportunities to progress up the corporate ladder within your company.
We also feel for new hires the onboarding process is extremely critical. Do you assign an internal mentor regardless of the stature of the position to each new hire and monitor that employees progress for the first 30 to 90 days? We feel that time frame, the first three months, will mold the new employee’s perception of the company, its culture and its employees. It is super critical to stay close to these new employees during this period.
We see a lot of companies doing employee surveys, these surveys really address multiple areas of the company and solicits feedback from the employees so that they feel they have an impact and a voice in where the company is going currently and into the future. The results of these surveys need to be shared in an open company forum, in a give and take type question and the answer type of session.
Companies that have an open mind and open communication with all employees seem to retain their employees much better. Companies need to know where each employee stands within their happiness index with their role within the company. Constant communication between the manager and his or her employees is essential to eliminating surprises that lead to resignations.
