Recruiting in the year 2023 had a lot of lessons learned for most companies, but one thing that we have seen is that some trends are still very real year over year. Let’s take a look at recent findings published by Bullhorn, a leading recruitment software provider.
Key Takeaways:
- It is still a candidate’s market, and the way candidates see how recruiters or recruitment teams handle their pursuit of the role is critical to retaining that candidate’s commitment to the process.
- Candidates expect the placement process to last only one month or less, they expect frequent outreach weekly from their recruiter and want to be communicated with throughout the entire process.
- All types of companies that are hiring have to be aware of this major candidate concern of frequent communication as your company’s reputation is at risk, and top talent wants to be plugged in during their recruitment process. If your recruiter can have weekly contact with that candidate, your chances of having the candidate’s loyalty and interest go up dramatically. We find from our experiences, that if there is constant communication with the candidate, the likelihood of them accepting a quality offer is heightened.
According to Bullhorn, though, nearly 2/3 of candidates are not satisfied with the speed of placement.
Key Factors Leading to Dissatisfaction:
- Process being too slow.
- Not enough communication.
- Process too complex.
- Job options presented were not good.
Our Thoughts:
- We concur with some of these findings. If a candidate has to fill out a questionnaire upfront, take a personality profile test, and go through multiple rounds of interviews, including a series of team meetings followed by multiple in-person interviews, that process wanes on a candidate as it just takes up too much time and they have a job.
- We find email and text as the best way to communicate quickly beyond the #1 communication tool using the phone.
In conclusion, to keep candidates engaged during the process, you need to reach out to them at least once a week. For a rapid placement, communication is critical. The more the candidate has a feel for your hiring manager’s style, company culture, team, and specifics on company benefits, the higher your chances are to close. Most candidates we talk to are unsatisfied with the speed of clients’ processes and intervals of interviews. We find email the best way to communicate, closely followed by texting for rapid response, especially with early career candidates. We find an excellent response rate for higher-level candidates via LinkedIn and phone. The more you communicate, the better your chances of securing the candidate.
